Great Taste, the world’s most coveted food and drink awards, has announced its stars of 2019. Out of 12,772 products sent in from over 100 different countries, Noble Leaf from Warwickshire, was presented a Great Taste award star for its Empower, Black Assam Whole Leaf Tea.
Judged by over 500 of the most demanding palates, belonging to food critics, chefs, cooks, restauranteurs, buyers, retailers and producers, as well as a whole host of food writers and journalists, Great Taste is widely acknowledged as the most respected food and drink accreditation scheme for artisan and speciality food producers. As well as a badge of honour, the unmistakable black and gold Great Taste label is a signpost to a wonderful tasting product, which has been discovered through hours and hours of blind tasting by hundreds of judges.
Empower, is a whole leaf black tea from the famous Assam region in India. Assam tea is grown at or near sea level and experiences high precipitation and hot temperatures, creating a greenhouse-like environment of extreme humidity and heat which produces a bold and malty flavour. The Noble Leaf Black Assam is a full-bodied ‘tippy’ whole leaf tea which has stunning golden tips.
The judges reported, “a stunning quality leaf indeed. There are hay-like notes and evident maltiness.” Chris Rule, Co-Founder commented, “we are thrilled with this prestigious award from Great Taste. We carefully source our tea directly from the tea estates, looking for quality as well as high standards and it is great to receive this award. We will be sharing this award with the tea garden and it’s a huge testament to all those who work so passionately at the tea estate in India and at Noble Leaf HQ.”
